Foreclosures on Hold - by Tom Brewer
Foreclosures on Hold
In an unprecedented move, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac and some of the other largest lending agencies have decided to observe a freeze on foreclosures. This is a huge relief for many homeowners that are struggling to get out from under their debts so they can save their homes. Homeowners that have loans through Fannie or Freddie will be given a temporary reprieve from December 19th to January 2nd.
Although there are not a large number of foreclosed (or soon to be) homes in the cities of Arlington and Mansfield, homeowners can at least breathe a sigh of relief for the holidays. Homebuyers that are worried that they might miss the opportunity of a lifetime may want to wait until after the holidays to see what kind of deals they can find among all of the homes for sale in these areas.
This is an unusual move for these major lenders but it shows a good faith effort to keep people in their homes. Besides, these lenders cannot continue to absorb more and more housing debt due to defaulted loans. The general idea and the primary purpose for their existence are to help make the American Dream come true for thousands of families across the country.
