How Real Estate Buying Differs Between Men and Women - by Tom Brewer

How Real Estate Buying Differs Between Men and Women

Coldwell Banker's recent survey of 1,000 men and women was done to highlight the differences in how the two sexes approached purchasing a home.

One result of the survey tells us that both sexes are interested in having an office in the home and that this is actually one of the main features people are looking for today. Men are interested in finding a home that consists of a so-called 'man cave' or a place where they can retreat to in order to escape the daily stresses of life. Typical features to be found in these man caves include big screen TV’s, pool tables and a bar.

When they were asked how long it took before they realized that a home was a good fit for them, women said they had decided on the same day they viewed the home - up to 70% of women felt this way to be exact. Only 62% of the men said the same thing.

It was also discovered that 55% of females would rather live near their jobs and their extended families than do men. Only 37% of the males said this was important to them.

Security is one area that both sexes consider to be very important. Sixty-four percent of the women surveyed said that they would no longer be interested in a home if it had security concerns and 51% of the men surveyed agreed. Couples said that both parties made the final decisions in the home buying process.
