More Tips For Winterizing Your Arlington and Mansfield Area Home

Now that the holidays are past us and everyone is focusing on their new year’s resolutions, it is a good time for residents to find ways to save. As a follow up to our December 10th blog post titled, ‘Tis the Season to Winterize Your Home’, there are a few more things Arlington and Mansfield area home owners can do to keep themselves warm during the winter season. This week, for example, we are expecting freezing and below freezing temperatures all around the Arlington and Mansfield area. According to the National Weather Service, freezing rain may also be in the forecast.

Anyway, Arlington and Mansfield area homeowners should do everything they can to stay warm inside their homes without having to accrue huge gas and electric bills. As previously mentioned, making sure all windows and doors are properly sealed is a good idea. Adding door sweeps to the bottom of your doors can help. Older homes are especially susceptible to drafts and tiny cracks in these areas can drain the heat right out of a home as the temperature drops.

Arlington and Mansfield homeowners should maintain a steady internal temperature to prevent pipes from freezing and bursting, a costly expense. You can also turn your taps a tiny bit to allow a small amount of water to continue to flow to help prevent freezing water lines. Be sure to close the chimney flue and reverse ceiling fans (that is, make sure they are turning clockwise when you are looking up at them). Remember to consider using more blankets on beds and wearing warmer clothing like flannel pajamas or thermal gear at night

While the list goes on for good winterization tips, being prepared ahead of time will save you a lot of effort, time and money.
