Living Greener is Easy and Can Save Money

With rising costs for electric and gas home heating, Arlington and Mansfield homeowners can help offset their expenses by modifying a few of their every day habits in ways that help reduce their environmental impact.

It only makes sense to find ways to realize some savings in today’s recovering national economy. Homeowners know full well how severe weather and utility rate hikes can definitely affect their monthly expenses.

As the condition of the environment becomes increasingly important to more and more people, many are taking steps to consume less and to find other ways to reduce their overall impact on natural resources. Most newly constructed Arlington and Mansfield homes already have many energy saving features. There are a few useful tips for Arlington and Mansfield homeowners to accomplish both of these feats, saving and greener living.

Energy Star appliances are the way to go. Homeowners will reap savings from more energy efficient appliances as well as cashing in on government rebates and tax credits.

Lowering the temperature on the thermostat during the winter months can help save both money and energy. You can also shut down computer equipment and unplug other unused electrical devices to help reduce energy consumption.

Lowering the temperature on your hot water heater, taking shorter showers & baths, changing showerheads and faucets to low-flow, using cold water or hand-washing clothes, hand-washing dishes and only watering the lawn in the evenings are also good ways to save.

It is easy to see how you can help do your part for the environment and save yourself money at the same time by making a few, mostly small changes in your habits. Those savings can go towards home improvements, family vacations or the cost of a child’s college education.
