DFW Tops US in Building Permits
According to research data compiled by John Burns Real Estate Consulting, the Dallas-Fort Worth area is one of the top real estate markets in the United States for building permits for single family homes. For a 12 month period that ended in May 2009, 15,115 building permits were issued in the DFW region. The number of building permits for the DFW area made up about 23% of the total amount for the state of Texas.
This trend also shows how strong the local real estate market is for the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Clearly homebuilding efforts in central Texas are continuing in the face of the economic downturn. This is another testament to the stability of this area.
It is interesting to note that the total number of building permits issued in Texas was more than the states of California and Florida combined during the same 12 month period.
Texas builders have had the unique experience in their industry of continuing to have a steady workload. That’s great news for the DFW area since workers will continue to have their jobs unlike in other states.
Some homebuilders credit the consistency in their industry in the DFW real estate market to choosing projects carefully and making sure their clients are financially capable of completing the projects. The housing industry in general and especially the various real estate markets can follow the lead of Texas and help revive their respective areas.
