Talk Heats Up Over Potential Keller Conference Center
Private developers may have something to cheer about soon depending on how the Keller Texas City Council decides on whether or not a parcel of land just off Bear Creek Parkway can be converted from dedicated park land to commercial use. A recent presentation reviewed the land in question and has opened discussion on all of the potential options that may be available.
Some ideas for the land include the development of a conference center or a luxury hotel. The development of the land for commercial use will have to be get past a public referendum before the city can sell the land or enter into a joint venture with a private developer. The land is favorably located in the town center which is more of a prime location than other Keller real estate parcels.
One of the main obstacles to the project will be the fact that the land has been traditionally used for major Keller events including local favorites like the KellerFest, Holly Days and Jazz in June events. These community events may have to either be moved or modified to accommodate any major development.
Some advocates of development of the land think that a new conference center or hotel will not interfere with these cherished events. In fact, either plan could bring in a huge new revenue stream for local businesses and the Keller tourism industry.
In many cities, having the ability to host conferences and to provide lodging to visitors and conference attendees can really put them on the map and help increase the productivity of the local economy. As the city becomes more accessible to corporate events and venues, more businesses will more into the area. This will in turn increase the number of jobs available in the area, which will then increase the demand for homes in the Keller Texas real estate market.
The discussion for the development of this land is still in its early stages but it is expected to be a major topic on the November ballot. Residents and businesses will be increasingly interested as the discussion progresses.
